What an amazing team we have here at Home-Start.
Towards the end of April, the 2.6 Challenge was launched – a fundraising campaign launched on 26th April to mark what would have been the 40th London Marathon (which was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic) in order to help raise funds for the many charities and good causes that would have benefitted from the money raised by the Marathon.
Two of the Home-Start team signed up to the 2.6 Challenge and this post is our way of giving thanks to their amazing efforts and share how they got on…
26 laps of the garden
One of our trustees, Lois, committed to walk 26 laps of her garden, totalling 18,000 steps with her helpful companion Ella. Luckily, the weather was on her side, so it was a lovely day to take a ‘walk’!
Lois said: “Ella and I completed our 2.6 Challenge in 2 hours 30 minutes and 13 seconds, with just two pee pauses for Ella! I must admit to it being more demanding than either of us expected towards the end! Ella was looking longingly at the front door each time we passed it in the latter stages, and I was dreaming of a hot bath and a comfy sofa!
So far Lois has raised just over £2,600 for Home-Start, far exceeding her original target of £650… and donations are still coming in!
She commented on this by saying “Thanks to your generosity, it made it all worthwhile. I’m humbled. Thanks again for your support.”
Here’s a short clip from Lois, showing how she got on:

A family affair
Our Scheme Manager, Sarah, got the whole family involved in the 2.6 challenge.
Sarah completed the ‘Plank’ exercise (holding her position for 2.6 minutes – no easy feat!). Her daughter, Freya, completed 26 rounds of 26 sit-ups (ouch!) and her son Louie walked 2.6 miles… barefoot (yikes!). Last, but by no means least, her husband, Simon, undertook a 26-mile bike ride (lovely weather for it!).
All in all, it was a thoroughly family affair and a job well done, and between them, they have raised nearly £600 so far – smashing their target of £200!
Take a look at this short video to see pictures of how they got on:

Well done to all of you – it must have been so rewarding to have completed your challenges and we are so proud of you! Thank you for helping to raise much-needed funds to help Home-Start continue to deliver our services to families in need during these unusual times.
We recognise the pressure that the lockdown is having on everyone: being confined to limited space, even with those we love, is not easy. But we want to be here for our families now and in the future, because every child’s tomorrow starts today.
