Our Get Ready for School programme, Big Hopes Big Future, makes sure that when the time comes for child/ren to start nursery or primary school, both children and parents are ready.
Get Ready For School
Working Directly with Children
Specially-trained volunteers visit the homes of families supported by the programme. The volunteers bring with them original, specially produced materials, which enable them to work directly with the young children to great effect.
Volunteers help develop reading, writing, numeracy, and understanding of the routines of the school day. Activities are made to be fun, so that children are happy to try new things and are less distracted when participating.
Supporting Parents in their Children’s Learning
The programme also supports parents to include learning in everyday activities, such as a trip to the park, or having breakfast together.
It also supports parents to use things they have around the house to create a learning environment – for instance, looking through leaflets with their children to find letters of the alphabet, or making marks with sticks in the garden.
The programme offers stand-alone support to qualifying families; some families benefiting from the programme have previously been supported by home-visiting; others receive home-visiting after the programme has finished for their family.
“The support has been able to get my children from having low attendance at school to higher attendance and it is going to be even higher”
If you believe your child/ren would benefit from this programme, please contact us to discuss further.
