Home-Start Trustee Roles
What Does Being a Trustee Involve?
Trustees are at the heart of Home-Start Royston, Buntingford & South Cambridgeshire. They work together as a board to guide our charity, ensuring we stay true to our mission and values while making decisions that shape the future of our services.
Why Trustees Matter
Every decision you make as a trustee helps families facing real challenges—mental or physical illness, isolation, bereavement, and more. By guiding our strategy and supporting our leadership team, you’ll help ensure that parents receive the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life.
Our work includes:
- Volunteer-led Home Visiting for early intervention
- Specialist Family Support Groups in Royston, Buntingford and South Cambs
Your role ensures these services remain strong, sustainable, and responsive to local needs.
Your Role as a Trustee
- Act collectively with fellow trustees to oversee governance and strategy
- Support and challenge the leadership team to deliver high-quality services
- Monitor key areas such as finance, safeguarding, and risk management
- Champion diversity, equality, and inclusion in everything we do
- Help protect the charity’s reputation and ensure resources are used effectively
You don’t need previous board experience—just a commitment to families and a willingness to learn. We provide a thorough induction, ongoing training, and cover reasonable expenses.
Time Commitment
- Around 8–10 hours a month
- Five daytime board meetings a year plus an annual strategy away day
