TRUSTEES’ WEEK

9 – 13 November 2026

Every Family Needs a Team

At Home-Start, we believe that nobody should face family life alone.

Many of the families we support come to us at a time when they are feeling isolated, overwhelmed or lacking the support network they need. One of the most powerful things we can offer is connection. A trusted relationship. A listening ear. Someone to remind them that they don’t have to face life’s challenges on their own.

At our AGM last month, we reflected on the importance of people and connection. These themes run through everything we do. While funding, services and projects are important, it is ultimately people and relationships that create lasting change for families.

This Trustee Week, we’d like to recognise nine people who are an important part of that story: our trustees.

Every Charity Needs a Team Too

Just as every family needs a team around them, so does every charity.

Our trustees volunteer their time, skills and experience to help guide Home-Start Royston, Buntingford & South Cambridgeshire. Working behind the scenes, they help ensure the charity remains strong, sustainable and focused on its mission, so that local families can continue receiving the support they need.

Their role includes overseeing the charity’s governance and finances, helping shape our strategic direction, supporting the staff team and ensuring we remain accountable to the families, volunteers, funders and communities we serve.

Their contribution may be less visible than that of our staff or volunteers, it is no less important. They help create the foundations that allow Home-Start to thrive and continue making a difference to local families.

Why Our Trustees Support Home-Start

Our trustees come from a variety of backgrounds, bringing different experiences, skills and perspectives to the board. What they share is a commitment to supporting local families and a belief in the power of connection and community.

Here is what they say about why they choose to give Home-Start their time:

“Being involved with and making a contribution to the fantastic work that Home-Start Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire does with families in my own community is very rewarding.“

“I was inspired to become a trustee for Home-Start as I knew about the charity from friends and the great work they did. I felt it was a worthwhile cause that helped local families. Home-Start gives our families help tailored to their individual needs and our volunteers are not there to judge or criticise  families, just to support them in difficult times. I loved the idea of the family groups and on visiting found them to be such a warm and inclusive environment for children and their parents.  I have found being a trustee is  a great way to still use my skills from my professional career and I have meet such a wide variety of interesting and diverse people in the five years I have been a trustee.“

A Shared Commitment to Families

The families we support often tell us that what makes the biggest difference is knowing that someone is there for them.

That belief in the power of people is what connects everyone involved in Home-Start. Our volunteers, staff, supporters, funders and trustees all play a part in helping families build confidence and resilience.

This Trustee Week, we would like to say  thank you to our nine trustees. Thank you for your time, your expertise, your thoughtful leadership and your unwavering commitment to Home-Start and the families we serve.

Every family needs a team.

Every charity does too.

Support Families Your Way

Our trustees support families through their leadership and governance. Others support us by attending events, becoming regular donors or helping us spread the word about our work. The important thing is that there are many ways to make a difference.

Whether you attend an event, become a monthly donor or simply help raise awareness of the challenges local families face, your support helps ensure that families in our community receive the practical and emotional support they need when they need it most.

Find out how you can support families your way and help us continue building stronger families through connection, compassion and community here.

Thank you.
