Escape Room: Can you get off the island before it sinks?

It’s been a long and difficult year and you’re feeling pretty exhausted. Sure, you’ve got a lot to be grateful for, but lockdowns, missing family and friends, worrying about catching Covid… that’s enough to make anyone feel worn out.

So you decide to escape somewhere, but with restrictions on travel still a bit of hit and miss, you find yourself searching for something you can do from the comfort of your sofa or chair instead. You hit that search button on Google and up comes a list of Escape Rooms. Perfect! You can ‘escape’ without actually leaving your home, and if you can gather some family members or friends then you can do it together as a team.

And although you’re not really sure what an escape room entails you have heard of them and know that they’re not a completely foreign concept. Something to do with puzzles right?

You scroll down the list and come across ‘St. Margaret’s Island’, an online escape room game created by Cathy, Events and Community Development Manager at Home-Start Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire. You like the sound of that as, if you offer a donation of your choosing, you are not only engaging in something that will keep your mind busy but also helping to support a local charity.

So, what does St. Margaret’s Island escape room look like?

You’re offered the chance of a week’s holiday on a remote Scottish island. But, things don’t quite work out… when you arrive at your destination, the island is flooded. And even worse: you’re stranded, with no way to get home. In a few hours, the whole island will be underwater, and so will you!

You need to figure out how to escape from the Island before the tide comes in…

This online escape game is lots of fun for all the family. The challenges are varied and the gameplay is immersive.

To play the game, all you need to do is make a donation to Home-Start Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire. 100% of donations go towards supporting families who need our help.

Once you have made your donation, you will receive an email containing a code. The code is the password to enter the game.

Decipher the clues and solve the puzzles to escape from the Island. There is no time limit on the game, although the estimated time to complete is around 90 minutes.

The game is online and will need internet access to run. Use the internet to help you! You can look up answers to questions.

To get your access code you need to make a donation… the amount you choose is totally up to you!
