We want to say a tremendous thank you to Keeley Thomas, one of our incredible supporters, who has raised a whopping £1,672 for Home-Start!
Keeley took on the challenge of getting fit in an admirable way, by doing 50 squats every day for the whole of February. For any of you out there that are familiar with squats, 50 is quite a lot! And 50 every day, for 28 days, is awesome!!! That’s 1,400 squats in total, to be precise! Ouchy!!
The challenge was set up as a fundraiser through Facebook and people sponsored Keeley’s initiative, with the donations going directly to Home-Start. Our thanks must be extended also to everyone who sponsored Keeley, and in particular, The British Queen Pub in Meldreth, who donated £507 – proceeds from their meat raffle towards Keeley’s challenge.
Keeley made a thank you video, to everyone who donated… click here to view it.
Keeley and her mum Lindy are stoic Home-Start supporters. They are part of the WomenSing choir, who regularly raise money for Home-Start, and over Christmas, Lindy was painting rocks to sell for charity and donated some of the proceeds to Home-Start.
Lindy told us:
“It was lovely to see the total go up daily and know lots of people were supporting Keeley in her endeavour!! I’m just blown away by the generosity of people.”
We wanted to say a special thank you to Keeley, as this was such a great challenge, so we presented her with her very own Home-Start teddy-bear:

Support like this is brilliant and £1,672 gives Home-Start a great start to our new financial year, for which our fundraising target is set at a very significant £185,000.
The last year has been incredibly difficult for many families and the constant changes to routines, lack of social connection with people, financial changes and other challenges have left many families feeling alone, anxious and lacking in confidence.
There is no doubt that as we see restrictions relaxing and we start adjusting to another new normal, many families will benefit from the support we are able to offer. We need to be flexible, creative and ready to go with support so that we are able to respond to individual’s needs in the most timely and appropriate way. Thank you, Keeley and Lindy, for helping us to be in the best position to provide this ongoing support for families in our local community.
Over the last financial year, individual sponsorship challenges have raised over £10,000 for Home-Start. We are so grateful for this kind of fundraising support. Often those undertaking challenges have new networks to ask for sponsorship. As with Keeley’s challenge, this increases awareness of Home-Start, locally, but also nationally, as there are many other local Home-Start charities throughout the country supporting families.
If you are considering taking on a personal challenge, why not make it a sponsored event and raise money for a worthwhile charity like Home-Start at the same time. We would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested and would be happy to discuss ideas, set up a page and publicise it. So get in touch today!
