Join us for our Annual General Meeting

We are thrilled to invite you to our Annual General Meeting (AGM), a special evening where we come together to reflect on another year of supporting local families and to share our vision for the future. The event will take place on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024, at Icknield Walk First School, Royston, with doors opening at 6:00 PM for refreshments before the formal AGM begins at 6:30 PM. This year’s AGM promises to be both informative and inspiring, and we can’t wait to welcome our supporters, volunteers, and community partners for what will surely be a memorable evening.

The evening will begin with a warm welcome as guests arrive from 6:00 PM to enjoy complimentary refreshments. This pre-meeting time offers a wonderful opportunity to mingle with fellow supporters, volunteers, and key members of the Home-Start team. Whether you’re catching up with old friends or making new connections, this relaxed start sets the tone for an evening filled with stories of community impact and shared commitment to supporting families in need.

What to expect

At 6:30 PM, the formal AGM will commence, and we’re excited to present updates from some of Home-Start’s key leaders.

Julie Mitchinson, Chair, will kick things off with an overview of the past year’s activities, reflecting on our charity’s milestones, achievements, and the important work we’ve done together.

Following Julie, Sarah Mascall, Scheme Manager, will provide a detailed look at how Home-Start has continued to grow and evolve, responding to the ever-changing needs of families in our local community. Sarah will share exciting news about new initiatives and programmes being rolled out, all designed to extend our reach and deepen our impact.

Finally, Angela Gear, Treasurer, will present the 2024 financial report, offering transparency on how our funding has been used to support families and how we plan to ensure our services remain sustainable in the years to come.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a lovely interview with a past family who has directly benefitted from Home-Start’s support. Hearing their personal journey will provide attendees with a powerful reminder of why our work is so important. Their story will highlight the life-changing impact that our volunteers and supporters make possible, offering a touching glimpse into the real-world effects of the services we provide. It’s a chance to see the tangible difference that Home-Start brings to the lives of families in need, thanks to the generosity and dedication of people like you.

We are also honoured to feature a special performance by our Poet-in-Residence, Jude Simpson, who will deliver a live reading of her original poem, ‘Many Hands of Home-Start.’ Written to mark our 40th anniversary, this moving piece beautifully captures the essence of what Home-Start represents – the strength that comes from a collective effort to support those in need, and the many hands that come together to lift families through difficult times. Jude’s performance promises to be a poignant and uplifting moment, celebrating the heart of Home-Start and the community we’ve built.

Connect and reflect

As the formal part of the AGM concludes, we invite you to stay for drinks and networking, beginning around 7:30 PM. This informal gathering will allow you to chat with members of the Home-Start team, connect with other supporters, and discuss future initiatives in a relaxed and friendly setting. Whether you’re interested in learning more about our upcoming plans or simply want to enjoy a drink while reflecting on the evening’s stories, this is a perfect time to deepen your engagement with Home-Start and explore how you can continue to support our work.

This year’s AGM is more than just a meeting; it’s an opportunity to celebrate the collective achievements of our community and to look ahead with hope and optimism for the future.
