Week 29 – Digital board games and quizzes

Hello and welcome to this week’s Giving Tuesday!

We’re well into Autumn, the nights are drawing in, the clocks go back next week and it’s time to think about how to fill those dark evenings, especially if we’re facing another period of lockdown.

Don’t worry! Home-Start has the answer.

Why not try playing some board games together as a family? And, if you hear a groan from the children (and they say “We’ve played all the ones we have already”), there is always the option to go digital… which we think, in this technological age, they will love!

Join the Arena

There are plenty of online game playing options, but here at Home-Start we like Boardgame Arena. Most of the games on this platform are free, but if you would like to play the “premium” games it’s only £24 a year (£2 a month), so pretty good value. You could try:

The best thing about this kind of online game system is that you can play with anyone – friends, family, colleagues – no matter how near or far they are, all you need is a computer and an internet connection.

Take an online challenge

If board games (albeit on a computer screen) are not your thing, what about an online quiz? There’s quite a few to choose from.

The Quiz Maker has a few amusing options like the Collective Noun quiz – did you know the collective noun for a group of sheep was a “mob”? Neither did we, ‘til we took the quiz.

Or perhaps you would prefer something a bit more like a “real” pub quiz? In which case, look no further than Facebook on Monday nights. Talented and hilariously funny folk group, The Lancashire Hotpots, run their excellent pub quiz every Monday.

One Step Further..

Maybe you fancy hosting your own online quiz in aid of a good cause? Virgin Money Giving have a ready-to-go quiz night pack you can download, complete with set-up guide, questions and all the things you need to make your virtual quiz night a roaring success.

Whatever way you end up playing, have a great time and please do let us know what your favourite online game is.

Right. Anyone one up for a game of digital Connect 4…?
