Week 10 – Going wild for the outdoors

Welcome to Week 10 of our Giving Tuesday campaign – our chance to give back to the communities that support us, and hopefully give you all some interesting and fun activities to engage with during the lockdown.
We’d love to hear what you think of Giving Tuesdays – just send us a Tweet or a FB message.
Go wild for the outdoors 🌲
This week, we are celebrating nature with the UK’s Wildlife Trusts, who have just released their “30 Days Wild” for June 2020. The Wildlife Trusts are encouraging people to do one wild thing a day during June, to improve mental and physical health and also to support the UK’s wildlife.
It’s free to sign up, and the digital pack includes everything you need to help your family go wild this June! Click here to go straight to the sign-up page.

Enjoy what nature has to offer 🍃
If you prefer something less ‘wild’, why not take a look at Dog Wood Days, a fabulous garden and nature blog by local writer Nic Wilson?
Nic has two young children and is passionate about encouraging people, young and old, to get out into nature. She has written a series of blogs specifically for the homeschooling period of the lockdown, suggesting ways that nature can be brought into education.
One of our favourites is the “Garden Spells” blog, which focuses on the magic of poetry and nature.

Staying indoors can be fun too!
And if going wild isn’t your thing (and, to be honest, when it’s raining it’s not everyone’s cup of tea), why not set yourself some code-breaking challenges from the excellent education site Twinkl?
We’ve downloaded a couple of them for you to try out, but there are plenty more to choose from. You could set up a Zoom or Skype call for your children and get them to challenge their school friends: who can break the code first?

If you and your family are really into code-breaking, there are plenty of other activities to try, such as:
Code-breaking competitions
How to write secret codes with your children
Or, you could try a virtual escape room
As always, don’t forget to send us your pictures and let us know how you get on.
