Who refers families to us?
How we Help
We support families with children aged 9 and under through a combination of home-visiting and family group support:
We match each family with a highly-trained volunteer who provides free emotional and practical support, which is non-judgemental, compassionate and confidential. The volunteer visits the family every week for two hours – tailoring the support to the family’s individual needs.
Our three specialised Family Support Groups take place once a week during term-time in Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire. Participants are invited to attend by Home-Start co-ordinators and the family’s volunteer (if the family is also home-visited).
How to Refer
If you are working with a family who you think could benefit from our support, you should discuss the possibility with the family, who must agree to receive support before any further steps are taken. Once the family is happy to receive our support, please contact us to refer the family.
Once you have referred a family, we will:
- Set up an initial visit with the family to discuss their needs
- Carefully match the skills and experiences of a volunteer to the needs of the family
- Introduce the volunteer to the family
- Let you know when our support starts and ends
- Monitor and assess support to measure progress
- Keep you informed to ensure a joined-up approach to support
