Legacy Giving

Legacy Giving

At Home-Start we are fiercely proud of the work we do to support families in the Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire area. We have been working with our local families for 40 years to support and help the parents who need us.

A legacy gift to support Home-Start will leave an impact beyond your lifetime. It will enable us to carry on our vital work or even support a special project to extend our range of services to our families.  Whatever the size, all gifts are gratefully received and will make a huge difference to a family who need our help.

What will you do with my donation?

  • £250 will pay for 10 families to attend one session at one of our Family Support Group sessions where they can learn new skills
  • £400 will fund the initial training for one new Home-Visiting volunteer
  • £600 will pay for a training session for our current volunteers
  • £700 will pay for a summer or Christmas party for our families to enjoy
  • £1,000 will enable around 20 families to attend a summer outing to a local wildlife park or other family themed activity
  • £1,500 will provide a family with 9 months of support from a Home-Visiting volunteer
  • £3,000 will fund one term at one of our Family Support Groups
  • £4,000 will train 10 new Home-Visiting volunteers
  • £5,000 will enable us to respond to emerging needs.  For example, providing wellbeing sessions to improve families mental health and supporting parents to develop the improved skills necessary to provide healthy low-cost meals for a family
  • £10,000 will cover the cost of the rent of our office space for a whole year

CASE STUDY

Julie and her new baby, Lincoln were brand new to the area, having fled their hometown due to Domestic Abuse.

Home-Start volunteer, Rachel, visited Julie helping her to get to know her new area, taking her to Rhyme time at the library and introducing her to Home-Start’s Family Support Group.

Julie has now been allocated safe accommodation, made some new Mummy friends and is thinking about nursery for Lincoln so she can go back to work for a few hours each week.

What is a Will?

A will tells everyone what should happen to your money, possessions and property after you pass away.

Why do I need a Will?

If you don’t make a Will, then the law decides how your estate is distributed and to whom. This may not be in line with your wishes. With no Will in place, it is likely to take longer to finalise your estate and can cause distress for your family.  Despite this, we were surprised to find out that a staggering 50% of people in the UK don’t have a Will!

Who can help me with my Will?

If you choose to leave a gift to Home-Start in your Will you need to speak to a Solicitor or a qualified Will Writer. They can advise you of the correct wording. Please make sure any legacy gift is specifically to Home-Start Royston, Buntingford & South Cambridgeshire, reg charity number 1105385.

Are there different types of Legacy Giving?

There are two ways of leaving a legacy gift in your Will. You can either leave a fixed percentage of your assets or a fixed sum of money of your choice.  Legacy gifts are also exempt from Inheritance tax so it has the potential to reduce the amount of Inheritance tax your family will need to pay to the Government. As Home-Start is a registered charity we will not have to pay tax on the gifts we receive. You can also specify which charity you would like any collection at your funeral to go to.

Can I specify what my legacy is spent on?

You can specify in your Will what work you want to support, or you can leave a general gift. Whatever you choose, you can be certain that every penny we receive at Home-Start will make a real difference to local families that need us.

THANK YOU

We would like to say a special thank you to our supporters who have already made gifts and donations to Home-Start helping to make our work possible.
