Love Your Home-Start Day

In February each year, we celebrate the work we do in our community by holding our annual “Love Your Home-Start” (LYHS) day. And this year (2023) is a particularly special year as we are celebrating our 40th anniversary.

Home-Start has been helping families in Royston and surrounding villages, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire, since 1983. That’s 40 years of offering friendly, confidential, compassionate help to families who are facing tough times.

How do I get involved?

We encourage you, your colleagues, your family and your friends to take part in the day by participating in activities that have a link to our charity and ask for donations; for example, you could wear our signature colours (purple and orange) or something heart-themed (or red) for the whole day, you could host a ‘LYHS themed’ tea party, you could carry out a personal challenge on the day, the list is endless…!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding all the events taking place across our area in support of Love Your Home-Start Day, so keep an eye on our social media and check back to this page for updates (follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn to keep up-to-date with news).

What’s happening?

• Local schools are hosting a non-uniform day (plus a FREE activity pack for every child)
• Royston Repair Cafe (18th February). For more information, please visit their Facebook page after 21st Jan.
• Staff, Trustees and Volunteers will have an in-store collection at Tesco Extra in Royston from 9 am until 6 pm (if you would like to come along and help, contact Tracy on 01763 262262 or email tracy@hsrsc.org.uk).
• Birches Coffee Shop in Royston are having a raffle (pop in and purchase a ticket).
• Johnson Matthey will also be supporting us with a giving day.

Fill our LYHS page with messages

Host a Home-Start tea-party or lunch

Invite friends and family to an afternoon tea event in your own home or garden, where your guests could give a donation to Home-Start in exchange for tea and tasty homemade cake. We can provide a Home-Start collection tin and some beautiful Snowflake pin badges if you’d like to host a Tea.

Take on a personal challenge

Try a running, walking, cycling or swimming challenge for the day. If you use an app such as Strava, you could create ‘run art’ too… get inspired by this idea: Runner to use talent for GPS art to raise funds for spinal research charity Could you run heart shapes all around your town like these?

Do something else?

Maybe you have another fantastic idea which could form part of our special day? For example, you could suggest a dress-down day at your company (wear what you like to work). Have your colleagues wear their favourite or funny outfits while donating to Home-Start. Who’s got the best outfit? Don’t forget to send us your pics!
