About Russell Wate
Russell Wate is a highly experienced, retired senior homicide detective who has served as the senior investigating officer in over 100 major crime cases, including murders, international kidnappings, and significant paedophile inquiries. Throughout his career, he has received 14 commendations from judges and chief police officers for his exemplary work.
He is widely known for his contributions to safeguarding and for his pivotal role in the investigation into the deaths of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, two young girls murdered by Ian Huntley in 2002. Russell’s extensive research culminated in a doctorate focusing on child death investigations, and he has published a widely-read thesis on the subject.
In addition to his investigative work, Russell is the author of the acclaimed ‘DCI Alexander McFarlane’ crime series, where he merges his investigative knowledge with his passion for storytelling. He regularly conducts after-dinner talks and training sessions, sharing his expertise on both investigations and writing authentic crime novels.
