Become a Home-Start Challenge Champion

OUR GOAL

Our charity is committed to supporting local families through their most challenging times. Many families face difficulties that strain family life and parenting, making our funding essential to provide crucial support where it’s needed most.

Through our ‘Home-Start Challenge Champion’ campaign, from July to December this year, our target is to raise £30,000 towards our larger £200,000 fundraising goal for 2024/25. This will enable us to continue our vital support for families across Royston, Buntingford, surrounding villages, and the SG8 villages of South Cambridgeshire. However, achieving this goal requires your help!

We are seeking 30 (or more) individuals, local businesses, or community groups to become a ‘Home-Start Challenge Champion’ and inspire others to sponsor their efforts in raising £1,000 each (or more) to contribute to our £30,000 target. The person or group that raises the highest amount will be presented with our perpetual Home-Start Challenge Champion trophy.

WHAT’S INVOLVED

As a Home-Start Challenge Champion, you, your company, or community group can take on a challenge and gather support to achieve your fundraising goal. You can choose from our suggested activities below or bring your own creative ideas to the table.

Local Businesses

Gather your colleagues for a team challenge to raise upwards of £1,000. It’s a great way to fundraise and build team spirit, and you can tailor the activity to fit your business to ensure maximum participation and success. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Sponsored relay challenge (24-hour bike ride, run/walk relay, or Swimathon)
  • Corporate sports day (traditional games with entry fees towards fundraising)
  • Charity car wash (fundraise by washing cars in your company’s car park)
  • Scavenger hunt (organise a local hunt with entry fees supporting our cause)
  • Office Olympics (fun challenges with prizes for participants)

Trademark Kitchens and Bathrooms are proud to support the great work that Home-Start do. In our lives we have all, at times, needed support. Some of us are lucky to have a loving and supportive network of friends and family for such occasion. Others, often through fault of their own do not.

Individuals

Thinking of going it alone? We’ve seen amazing support from individuals like Elliot, who recently cycled 205 miles from Minster-On-Sea to Weston-Super-Mare, raising nearly £900 for HSRBSC at the Chase the Sun 2024 event. Keeley also made a big impact with her challenge in February doing 50 squats a day and raising £300. You can start with a goal of £250 or £500 for your own challenge. Who knows? You might surpass expectations and make a huge difference!

Choose from walking, running, cycling, reaching a step goal, swimming lengths, a fitness challenge (e.g., 30 push ups a day for a month), skipping (like 500 skips a day for a week or 5,000 skips in a month), football skills, muddy puddle walks (perfect for little ones), hula hoop challenges, or share your own fundraising idea!

Community Group

If you prefer not to go solo, consider joining forces with a group of friends, like Phil and his friends who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2023 for HSRBSC and two other local charities – you can read all about it here.

Or you could team up with work colleagues, a local group or an organisation you’re already part of to support HSRBSC. This could be a local gym, running club, 5-aside group, or any other community group. You can either pick from the suggested activities or propose something different.

What a pleasure it is to work with the team at Home-Start Royston, Buntingford & South Cambs. Their dedication and passion to help young families really rings true to our women’s choir, many who have been parents of young children in the past or are grandparents supporting their own families.

Why Support Us?

Being a parent isn’t easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heartbreaking, and overwhelming. Life-changing events can happen to anyone – that’s where we step in. Our volunteers are welcomed into the homes of the families we assist, allowing us to make a real and lasting difference so that no child’s future is limited. They help parents rebuild confidence and stability in their households, enabling them to establish routines and support their children effectively.

In 2023/24, HSRBSC supported 102 families with 225 children and 63% of families had complex needs (see infographic below). Mental health is a significant concern, with 83% of referred parents noting its impact on daily life and family dynamics. This can lead to isolation and low self-esteem, especially in supporting children’s development, early learning, and socialisation. Accessing help can be daunting, with long waiting lists and limited affordable options adding to the stress. Home-Start bridges this gap, offering crucial assistance when families need it most.

We respond to changing needs and new demands as they arise. The last couple of years have been extremely challenging for HSRBSC and the families we work with, who are grappling with financial strain due to rising inflation and living costs. Your support can truly change lives.

How Your Fundraising Can Help

Our fundraising goal for 2024/25 is £200,000. Raising this amount will allow us to meet increasing referrals, train new volunteers, recruit staff, and expand our digital outreach to engage more supporters, donors, and partners.

By becoming a Home-Start Challenge Champion and raising any amount you can, you’ll play a vital role in supporting local families as they navigate the challenges that every parent or carer encounters during their children’s upbringing.

Support for Your Challenge

The HSRBSC team is committed to supporting you at every stage of your fundraising challenge. We offer a range of resources such as logos, social media content, graphics, and more to enhance your efforts and effectively raise awareness.

If you require assistance setting up your fundraising page, we are here to help with that too.
