Family Support Volunteer

Home-Start volunteers provide vital support to local families when they need it most. With their own parenting experience, our volunteers offer practical help tailored to the unique needs of each family. As part of our friendly, supportive team, volunteers make a real difference in the lives of those they support.

What you need to do?

To become a volunteer with Home-Start Royston, Buntingford, and South Cambridgeshire, you must complete our relevant Volunteer Preparation Course, depending on the role you choose. No formal qualifications are required, but all Family Support Volunteers must have relevant parenting experience.

Volunteer Preparation Course

Our Preparation Course is friendly and informal, designed to build on your personal experiences of parenting. It gives you the foundation you need to confidently support families in need. The course usually runs once a year, so keep an eye out here or on social media for updates on the next course date.

The course consists of 8 sessions, each approximately 5 hours long. Topics covered include:

Trustee

Our Trustees regularly review key areas such as finances, health and safety, and the delivery of high-quality services to our community.

Becoming a Trustee is a rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in decision-making for a cause you believe in. It offers the chance to get involved in every aspect of managing an organisation and make a real difference.

Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, if you’re passionate about offering your perspective, gaining new skills, and supporting local families to thrive, we would love to hear from you.

We offer a comprehensive Induction Programme to help you settle in and quickly start adding value. We also cover reasonable expenses. Our five Board meetings take place during the day, with at least one ‘Trustees’ Away Day’ each year to shape our future strategy.

For more information on our Trustee roles, visit our ‘Become a Trustee‘ or ‘Home-Start Trustee Roles‘, or get in touch if you’re interested in joining us.

eBay Seller (Volunteer)

Do you think you could be an eBay seller for Home-Start?

We are often very lucky to receive donations of unique and useful items that are not always usable by any of our families.

With the permission of the donor, we would like to sell some of these items through eBay, generating much needed unrestricted funding, helping us to continue to support families. We will provide full training for this new volunteer role.

If being an eBay seller is of interest to you, please get in touch today!
