Family Support Volunteer
Home-Start volunteers provide support to local families when they need it most. Our volunteers all have parenting experience which they can share with families so that they can give the right support at the right time in a way that suits each family individually. Our volunteers do all of this as an integral part of our friendly, supportive Home-Start team.

What you need to do?
In order to become a volunteer with Home-Start Royston, Buntingford and South Cambridgeshire you must complete the relevant Preparation Course, depending on the role. You don’t need any formal qualifications to do the course, but all Family Support Volunteers must have relevant parenting experience.
We are currently recruiting for our next Home-Visiting Volunteers course, which begins at the end of February 2021.
The course is friendly and informal, building on your own experiences of parenting. It gives you the grounding you need to feel confident to support families.
There are 8 sessions, all approximately 3 hours long, which will cover the following;
- Welcome to the course and introduction to Home-Start
- Role of a Home-Start volunteer
- Values, Attitudes and Listening
- Supporting Parents
- Meeting the Needs of Families
- Safeguarding Children
- School readiness
If you are considering becoming a Home-Start Volunteer and would like to join our next preparation course, then please get in touch today.
Our Trustees regularly review the most important issues such as finance, health and safety and the provision of an excellent service to the community.
Being a Trustee, sharing key decision-making for a cause you believe in, is very rewarding and gives wonderful opportunities to get involved in every aspect of managing an organisation.
We are looking for two or three enthusiastic people to join us as Trustees. People Management and Financial Management and Reporting are two key areas, but we are keen to hear from everyone who is interested in helping local families ‘to enjoy parenting and being a family’.
Whether you are a young person or experienced, if you are keen to offer your perspective and insight and maybe gain new skills and knowledge, we’d love to hear from you.
We offer a thorough Induction Programme to help you settle in and learn how you can quickly add value, and we will meet reasonable expenses. We have five Board meetings a year during the daytime, and at least one ‘Trustees’ Away Day’ to agree our future strategy.

eBay Seller (Volunteer)
Do you think you could be an eBay seller for Home-Start?
We are often very lucky to receive donations of unique and useful items that are not always usable by any of our families.
With the permission of the donor, we would like to sell some of these items through eBay, generating much needed unrestricted funding, helping us to continue to support families. We will provide full training for this new volunteer role.
If being an eBay seller is of interest to you, please get in touch today!
