Become a Home-Start Trustee

Home-Start trustees meeting to discuss charity strategy

Could you be our next Trustee?

At Home-Start, we believe that strong families make strong communities. Our Trustees play a vital role in guiding our charity to support local families through challenging times. We’re looking for people who share our values—kindness, empathy, inclusion, and respect—and who want to help us make a real difference to become Trustees at Home-Start.

You don’t need to be a corporate professional or have boardroom experience. If you care deeply about families, community, and fairness, and want to help shape a charity that reflects the people it serves, we’d love to hear from you.

What skills would I need to become a trustee?

Our trustees come from a variety of backgrounds but what they all have in common is that they care about helping families thrive. Whether you’re a parent, carer, volunteer, community member, or professional, your experience and perspective matter to us.

What we value most:

  • A passion for supporting families and sharing our values
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Team players who respect different viewpoints
  • Curiosity, thoughtfulness, and an open mind
  • A willingness to learn and grow in the role

Experience in areas like fundraising, HR, finance, IT, early years, safeguarding, or GDPR is welcome—but not essential. If you’re committed and enthusiastic, we’d love to hear from you.

What would be Involved?

  • Around 8–10 hours a month, including five board meetings a year
  • Bringing your ideas and energy to help shape our work

As a trustee, you’ll play a vital role in guiding our charity’s work and making sure families in our community get the support they need. Your voice will help shape decisions that have a real, lasting impact on parents and children.
