A little more love for Mother’s Day

This year, more than ever before, mums deserved some recognition and with the help of our John Lewis partnership, we were able to surprise the Home-Start mums with a lovely gift.

Here one of our wonderful volunteers tells you all about it….

A little more love for Mother’s Day

Our family support group volunteers meet regularly with our co-ordinator to plan activities and discuss the support we are able to give Home-Start families.

At our meeting in January, we agreed it would be nice to do something a little special for Mothering Sunday, this year.  As times have been tough recently, we decided families deserved more than the usual bunch of daffodils.

We shared ideas and considered different options such as herb growing kits but thought this might be perceived as another job to do rather than something more personal that might be appreciated by mums. We decided to research pots of bulbs that would live much longer than cut flowers and could be planted outside to appear again next year.

Good old Tesco had a really good, but rather popular offer, so when I went to purchase them, I ended up visiting 5 different branches to make up the numbers needed!!  At least I had an excuse to get out of the house. 😀

Each pot was individually labelled with a Mother’s day message from Home-Start; one for every family that we support regardless of whether or not they attend one of our groups.

Several volunteers took part in the deliveries, and it was a joy to be able to speak with the Mums, see the children and have a face to face, if socially distanced, conversation.

Well done again Home-Start!

Here is some of the feedback we received from the families:
