Home visiting volunteer profiles
Jacqui has been working as a volunteer for nearly three years and has shared both laughter and tears with the families she has supported. She described her experience as a ‘fantastic journey’. Being a volunteer has given her the opportunity to help others and she ‘loves it’!
Parents we have supported in the past sometimes come back and become volunteers. Katy became a mum at the age of 17. Her son was born with a disability. Home-Start matched her up with a volunteer who also had a child with a disability. The volunteer helped Katy enormously because she was able to share her concerns with someone who was in the same position as herself. Katy is now a volunteer herself and running a support group for parents with children with disabilities.
Chrissie is in her late 50s and has been a volunteer for quite some time. She sees herself as being a ‘friend’ to the family, someone who doesn’t judge but just tries to help out in difficult times. She tells us she gains enormous satisfaction in helping families overcome their problems.
