Walking the Icknield Way for Home-Start

As you may know, Home-Start Royston & South Cambridgeshire has a huge fundraising challenge (a target of £50,000) because we have lost our Hertfordshire statutory funding. As a trustee and former volunteer, I want to do all I can to ensure that local families continue to be able to access support from Home-Start.

Over the coming months, I am planning to walk the length of the Icknield Way as a fundraising and campaigning event and I invite as many people as possible to join me for all or some of the way.

The Icknield Way is an ancient path that runs along a chalk ridge for about 110 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in the Chilterns to Knettishall Heath near Thetford in Norfolk.  I wont be able to do it in one day of course! So I am going to attempt to walk it in 8 stages, one a month (see below).  As well as raising funds, I hope it will be a collective show of support and solidarity for Home-Start.

If you are interested in getting involved, please read on. If you would like to sponsor me or my dog Winnie who will be doing a lot of the walk with me, or donate - please visit my mydonate page http://mydonate.bt.com/

This is the plan..

To walk each stage of the Icknield Way on the first Saturday of every month (whatever the weather!) from October 2015 through to June 2016 - except for January.

October 3rd                 Ivinghoe Beacon to Chalk Hill             10 miles

November 7th             Chalk Hill to Streatley                          10 miles

December 5th             Streatley to Ickleford                           10 miles

February 6th                Ickleford to Royston                            16 miles

March 5th                    Royston to Linton                                18 miles

April 2nd                      Linton to Cheveley                              16 miles

May 7th                        Cheveley to Icklingham                       14 miles

June 4th                      Icklingham to Knettishall Heath           16 miles

If you would like to fundraise separately yourself for HSRSC, the charity is registered on the

mydonate website and you can set up your own page (as I have done)  and ask your friends and family to donate.

Alternatively, if you just want to join me for one or two stages (or even for part of a stage) and you dont want to do a big fundraising campaign, just come along and give us a donation on the day, or donate via my mydonate page.

Please contact the Home-Start office if you would like to take part in a walk - 01763 262262 or email admin@hsrsc.org.uk

Many thanks
