Friends of Royston and District Healthcare
John Davies and Jenny Routledge from the Friends of Royston and District Healthcare presented a cheque for £15,000 to Home-Start Royston & South Cambridgeshire (HSRSC) this week.
Home-Start Chair of Trustees, Maureen Brierley said, “This injection of funds will help to ensure we can continue our work with Royston families who, for many different reasons, are in need of extra support to help them through times of difficulty and crisis. Our trained volunteers visit families regularly and make a difference to parents and children. We are very grateful for the support of local groups like the Friends. “
"For many years the Friends have fundraised tirelessly for patients and staff at Royston Hospital. Following the closure of the inpatient facilities at the hospital in 2013 the Friends began to award grants to local charities involved in improving healthcare in the community" said John Davies Vice Chairman of Friends of Royston and District Healthcare.
“We approached Home-Start Royston & South Cambridgeshire as we were aware of the excellent work they do with local families and one of the Friend’s wives has recently been a home visiting volunteer. The Friends’ criteria for funding is that it should be used to support mental health issues in families and we know that HSRSC provides invaluable support to families who are either professionally referred or who self-refer; carefully matching the skills and experience of their volunteers with the needs of those families.”
"My volunteer took me and my two children out to a play area. I have not taken my children out on my own since my breakdown. We had a wonderful time and I didn't have a panic attack."

Since October 2015 Home-Start schemes in Hertfordshire no longer receive statutory funding from Hertfordshire County Council and are now reliant on the generosity of the community and Trust funds.
