Calling all local Schools and youth organisations - sign up for Aquathon 2018
Home-Start will be running the Aquathon again in 2018 on Sunday 4th March.
If your school or youth organisation is interested in taking part, all you need to do is get together a team of 6 swimmers, they can be PTFA members, school staff or children, get each member of the team to obtain sponsorship, then at the event swim in relay for 55 minutes.
It's not a race, it's good fun, keeps you fit and you will be helping to raise much needed funds for your school and also towards the work of your local Home-Start scheme.
To book - please email email@example.com or call us on 01763 262262 for further information.
Read here about how 2 local primary schools raised funds for their schools earlier this year -
Haslingfield and Melbourn Primary Schools both entered enthusiastic swim teams into Home-Start’s Schools’ Aquathon held at Royston Leisure Centre on 5 February, 2017.
The teams swam in relay and powered their way up and down the pool swimming as many lengths as they could in 55 minutes. With a terrific fundraising push before and after the swim the “Haslingfield Harriers” raised over £720 for their PTFA and the “Melbourn Mako Sharks” raised over £500 with the same amounts raised for Home-Start too.
Ophelia Redpath who led the “Haslingfield Harriers” said “We’re so pleased to have taken part. Our school swimming pool has been in operation for over 50 years and the money we’ve all raised will help maintain our pool for generations to come. So a big thank you to all those who donated. We’ve already signed up to swim again next year, and we’d love to set a trend for other schools in this area to become involved in the Schools’ Aquathon which simultaneously contributes to local schools and to Home-Start’s wonderful charity work.”
Richard Crisford who led the “Melbourn Mako Sharks” said "This was a fun way of raising money, which involved all the family, whilst highlighting the importance of keeping fit and healthy and supporting our Primary School and a very valuable local charity."
Jane Pennington and Sarah Mascall from Home-Start presented the schools with their cheques on 13 March. “We’d like to say a huge thank you to both schools for taking part and raising funds for Home-Start. The money raised will help us to support local families with children under 9 through times of crisis. Children are at the very heart of our work and we have a particular focus on school readiness. It’s wonderful that schools and Home-Start can come together in events like the Schools’ Aquathon for the benefit of the children. “
“Our thanks also go to Royston Leisure Centre who kindly sponsored our event”.
